Panama Summary

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

Other than a quick trip down to the Darien where I met up with my friends hitchhiking through Central America on $4 a day and the Panama Canal I didn’t spend much time in Panama. I had heard that the road out to the boat might be a bit rough but when I wrote to […]

Coke and the US Coast Guard

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

Colombia produces 80% of the worlds cocaine so on our third day on board the US Coast guard haled us. Apparently they have boarded the boat at night with no warning pointing guns at everyone. Unfortunately we didn’t get boarded.

Stahlratte

Saturday, May 16th, 2009

It wasn’t all fixing the bike on board. We also had a bbq on one of the islands, walked around the Kuna inhabited islands, I got to test my camera underwater, eat freshly caught tuna and learn a couple new card games.

Thanks to Roland

Friday, May 15th, 2009

One of the crew on the Stahlratte was a fellow biker who spent half of the first day helping me straighten out the handlebars and half of the third day straighting out the pannier. They both will need to be fixed in Colombia but at least I can ride the bike when I get there […]

Bike Accident

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Turns out I was right to be worried. The road was very slippery. After a few skids I finally came off the bike, bent the handlebar 90 degrees, broke open the pannier and cracked the windscreen in half. On the bright side the truck who I persuaded to put the bike in the back took […]

Panama City

Monday, May 11th, 2009

I had wanted to see the Darien tribe of people who are suppose to be only just taller than pygmies but ended up seeing more of them selling their wares in Panama City than I did in the Darien. Turns out they don’t like having their photos taken. Driving in Panama City is like playing […]

Darien

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

A lot of people know of the Panama province of Darien because of the almost uncrossable land bridge between Central America and South America called Darien’s Gap. A few hundred kilometers from Panama City is the town of Yaviza where the northern part of Panamerican road ends. Most of the road is paved except for […]

Olympus and Canon Comparison

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Spending the night with Steve and his wife Karen at their weekend cottage in the Blue Hills gave me a chance to do some shots comparing the Olympus and the Canon. In each set the Olympus is first and the Canon second. I prefer the Canon for the wider angle and better close ups but […]
