Passport Misplaced

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Due to changing all my luggage around and my inability to carry my own things I have managed to misplace my passport. I found out at the border of Argentina and Chile. Myles kindly got off the bus with me and we tried for several hours to hitchhike back to Rio Grande (where I went [...]

A Heartfelt Thanks

Saturday, January 2nd, 2010

My accident was announced on the news in Rio Grande and Kieshka’s grandmother heard it and told her about it so she came to visit me and then ended up helping me pick up my motorbike, ship it to Buenos Aires and generally carting me around and being a translator. A huge thank you to [...]

Happy New Year

Friday, January 1st, 2010

I am a believer that if you have a shite new year’s eve that the rest of your year will be really good to make up for it. In that case 2010 for me should be brilliant. None of the pubs in Ushuaia were open and I am struggling to stay in a hostel with [...]

Pain

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

I took a minibus to Ushuaia and I am staying in a hostel but I am in so much pain and can’t do many things (I haven’t had a bath for four days now) that I don’t know how I am going to cope with the last month in South America until I am able [...]

Lucky to be Alive

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

I went and pickup’ed my bike yesterday with a big truck. The back was all smashed in, the speedo broken and the windscreen gone. Made me realise that I was lucky to survive. Apparently I was found about 10 meters away from the bike.

Broken

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Sit, stand, pull, push, bend forwards, bend backwards, walk, go to the toilet, get a drink of water, pick up a laptop, all these things you can do with a good back. With a broken collar bone it hurts to do everything. I am going to have to ship almost everything to Buenos Aires and [...]

Turned to the Darkside

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Enough of this natural optimism. I have spent two waking days in the hospital and I am over it. Everyone else is celebrating Christmas in Ushuaia and I am staring at pale green walls trying to figure out how to get news on the condition of my bike and what I will do for the [...]

Look on the Bright Side

Friday, December 25th, 2009

After a day of lying in my hospital bed I have had time to reflect on my situation. I can barely walk (dizzy from inactivity) or use one side of my body (tube to lungs or broken collarbone – not sure). I have talked to my mother who says I am lucky to be alive [...]

Intensive Care

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

Hi, I’m fine. I am lying in a hosiptal in Rio Grande, the bottom of Argentina where I have been for five days in and out of intensive care. Not really sure what happened or is wrong other than being in pain. Yep, 200 kms from my final destination after 50,000kms. And to think I [...]

Petroleum Princess

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

After having breakfast in a petrol station and checking my email I realised I needed to buy a front tyre as I wasn’t going to get it further south. Having just missed morning hours I had to wait until after the three hours siesta so I headed to the Petroleum Museum where I had my [...]
