Bicycle vs. Motorcycle

Bicycle vs. Motorcycle
There have been lot of emails going around my bike club about bicyclist’s not stopping at red lights. I find it a bit amusing at some of the negative attitudes of motorcyclists against bicycles. Surely it should be both of us against cars?
Yesterday I was almost hit on my bicycle by [...]

U-Turns

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

I am sitting on the side of a street in Isleworth London writing this on my mobile watching my mate do u turns to practice for his DAS this weekend. I tried a couple but it seems to me to be a very narrow road and I was having difficulties doing them so tight on [...]

I belong to ELAM (East London Advanced Motorcyclists) and we have a yahoo group. There have been lots of emails going around about the importance of wear suitable clothing. We are going through a heat wave and I think like a lot of motorcyclists in the UK my bike gear is much more [...]

Betting

Monday, July 24th, 2006

I have been trying to come up with something that would make my trip interesting to others to read about. Like the bloke who traded up with a paper clip for a house One Red Paper Clip. But I haven’t gotten any further than betting on my trip to raise money. I [...]

My friend is doing his direct access and I was going to pop into my old school Kick Start to say hi but ended up sleeping in due to a much later than expected night. The afternoon was spent out at the allotment followed by a roast dinner with allotment veggies at my allotment [...]

Tool Time

Friday, July 21st, 2006

This weekend I am going to try and put together a tool kit and I have been told that the best box you can get is a foot long piece of 4″ gas pipe and attach it to your bash plate in order to keep the weight low and the tools accessible.
1. It must be [...]

Done Deed

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

I am trying to do one thing a day towards the preparation of my trip. So today I bought a one way ticket to Argentina for 30 November 2006. It turned a boring work day into a ‘I can’t believe I am doing this’ heart pounding day.

Dublin Drinking

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

About a month ago I received an email from Neil in Dublin wishing me luck on my trip. He and his friend Mike are planning to bike around the world in 2008. As I was working in Dublin I met up with them last night once I had finished work.
It was lovely to [...]

Tank Top

Tuesday, July 18th, 2006

Kiwi Pete put me onto a mailing list headed up by Charles who is biking to Cape Town with his girlfriend, Rensche, at the end of 2007. These are their blogs www.nambok.blogspot.com and www.buyaikhaya.blogspot.com.
Charlie was kind enough to send me quite a few encouraging emails when I first got my bike about things like [...]

Delays to Dublin

I am working in Dublin until Wednesday. This morning my flight was delayed. There was over an hour queue to get through customs once I did get to Dublin and then the taxi’s were on strike so it was an hour and a half bus ride into town. Hence I am still [...]

Dunstable Downs

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

Sunday morning I headed off to the Elam social ride. This was my second social ride, my first one being not that long after I got my bike in February. It was amazing how much more confident I felt this time. The first one I was just happy to make it to [...]

Festivals

Saturday, July 15th, 2006

On Friday night I was invited along to the initial screening of Lycanthropy. Very cool, as not even the directors had seen it on the big screen yet. Even though didn’t think that it would be my type of movie (being more into romantic comedies – I am a chick after all), it [...]

Screaming Screening

Friday, July 14th, 2006

Roll on the weekend. Tonight I am attending the screening of the movie Lycanthropy whose makers Rotunda Films have kindly agreed to sponsor my trip 0.25% of the profits from the movie until 2010. I have even gotten dressed up for the occasion.
Tomorrow I am off to Guilfest as the band Music Roll [...]
