"To see a world in a grain of sand, And a heaven in a wild flower; Hold infinity in the palm of your hand, And eternity in an hour." – William Blake

Life 4 Sale

January 25th, 2010 by sunflowers

For the first time on my trip I give up. I shipped my bike up to Dakar Motos and the guy who has bought it went there on the 22nd January to make sure it was ok as I had told him about the crash and sent him photos has decided that he wants his money back and no longer wants the bike. I understand his position but for me it feels a bit like the last straw, it has been hard month with the accident and now this. I don’t even have anyone to talk to as the people who are staying where I am are Swiss and speak German all the time and the internet isn’t good enough to phone my mother.

Then when I am feeling at an all time trip low I met this bloke at dinner who turned out to be famous. Does anyone remember the British guy who moved to Australia with his wife and when she left him he decided to sell his life on ebay. Ian’s website about selling his life on ebay is www.alife4sale.com. Afterwards he used the money to achieve his life goals www.100goals100weeks.com. He was really interesting to talk to and we made arrangements to meet up the next day and hire a vehicle together.

    Hi Annette,

Glad to hear you are getting around to see more of SA before heading back to work. You are there and should enjoy your time.
    Easter Island looks very tempting.
When my bike was damaged in Columbia last March, I was lucky to have an interested party take the bike to a dealer/mechanic to have it ‘totaled’ then took that paperwork to customs to have the bike declared ‘destroyed’ (this took some $ encouragement) and then was able to have the temporary import documents eliminated. He has it now and is trying to fix it. Seems any part on a bike, if resold in the imported country (Columbia any how), needs to have a high import tax paid on it. I would think the same import rules apply for all SA contries. Is your bike repairable?
I found the Columbian medical establishment OK for basics but not up to speed on modern technics. I scooted home for my surgery and was glad I did. An excellent surgon and physical therapy folks here jave helped get my arm back in shape. My injury was very significant.
I hope you find the right medical attention for your coller bone and get on the road to healing.
Best to you in your exploration!
    Paul
