I have to admit I am finding it really hard to continue. I don’t have much desire to see anything anymore. And even thought it has been absolutely incredible it has been almost a year since I started out from LA and I am rapidly getting over traveling so I have decided to have a little break until the Horizons Unlimited meeting on the 12th December. See you then!

On Monday morning I got up at 3am and caught the ferry to Buenos Aires. I somehow made it through the maze of highways to Dakar Motors and rushed into town to meet up with Aga and her friend who were also visiting Buenos Aires. They had found a lovely cafe so we had a three hour lunch before they had to head back to their hostel to catch their plane home.

Unfortunately the tale has a sad ending as when Aga got back to London she realised that someone had taken three withdrawls from her account from Argentina while she was there. So if you are visiting make sure the ATM your using hasn’t been tampered with.

On Sunday morning we packed up the tents and I headed back into Colonia to do a bit of sightseeing with some of my new friends. Including an old disused bull fighting ring.

I have never had a weekend where I have come away with so many new friends. Uruguay has been great and a huge thanks to the Colonia Cruzados and Arnaldo for inviting me.

Asado’s are the name they give to bbq’s down here. Which they take pretty serious. A cow was killed and I watched them stripping the intestines to make the sausages.

During the day we all biked to this cool old museum where they smelter iron parts including a part for the BSA they are restoring.

I also won an award for being the most furthest traveled to get to the meet up.

In Colonia (Uruguay’s main tourist town and a ferry ride from Buenos Aires across the Silver River) I stayed with Arnaldo and was invited to join his bike club the Colonia Cruzados meet up. It was brilliant. Patrick finally showed me how my tent is suppose to be put up and everyone was incredibly friendly.

Thanks to Carlos and his partner for letting me stay with them for a few days even if Carlos did say that I looked like a big black bear when I headed off to ride to the other side of the country.

The coolest thing I heard while I was Uruguay was these frogs that sound like cats mewing.

Montevideo is the capital city of Uruguay. It seems like it would be a nice place to live but didn’t have many touristy type buildings. There was a couple that was dancing tango outside a restaurant, the schools were all wearing these painting smocks for their school uniform and the beer bottles were slightly concave so that you could hold them better which was cool.

Uruguay is a small country to the south of Brazil, and north-east of Argentina. It has a population of 3.5 million. Capital city Montevideo (population 1 million). It’s green rolling farmland reminds me a lot of northland in NZ. It is a wine producer being at the same latitude as Chile, NZ and Australia and is known as the Switzerland of South America.

You have to love a country that has a happy smiling sun on it’s flag.

After not seeing many travel bikes my entire trip while riding out of Brazil I had hundreds pass me. It turns out that there was a bike meet up in Uruguay that had about 5000 bikes of all types at it.

I won’t miss border crossing when I finish this trip. It took me 1.5 hours to leave Brazil due communication problems. Though entering Uruguay was a breeze. Then when I stopped for petrol I ended up meeting a Uruguay bike club that invited me to lunch, gave me a map and rode with me, pointing out that I was heading to the wrong city. So good start to my Uruguay section of my trip with a special thanks to Federico for escorting me to the place I was staying.
